Master Class: Big Questions, Big Instruments, Big Ideas

Wednesday, 29 June 2016
17:00 - 18:30 hrs CEST

Abstract

While astrophysics is maturing, the field is still driven by big questions - these include understanding Dark Matter and Dark Energy, the formation of the first stars and galaxies, the nature of black holes and their evolution, and the search for life on extra solar planets. To help answer these questions, we have new instrumentation from massive new telescopes, to new windows onto the Universe via Gravitational Wave detection. Discoveries from these new facilities should in turn spark new ideas in theory to explain what we see. In this master class we will discuss how the astrophysics mysteries of today create opportunities for tomorrow.
