Impact of Biological Intelligence (BI), Human Intelligence (HI) & Machine Intelligence (AI) On Innovation in Science & Technology (2023) - Michael Levitt; Moderator: Stefan Kaufmann

Abstract

The triad of Biological, Human & Artificial intelligences on Earth (BI, HI & AI) must work together to maximize benefit to human health and well-being. Each intelligence learns from the other in a synergist, self-amplifying cycle. Biological Intelligence teaches (1) maximize diversity and (2) use self-assembly. Human intelligence in molecular biology revealed the structural under-pinning of life. What made this burst of creativity possible? We describe early applications of computer modeling to simulation of macromolecules structure, dynamics & function. More generally we ask what makes humans creative. Artificial intelligence has come of age. We describe underlying models and emphasize teaching and learning techniques. Then we show examples of how large language models (ChatGPT, Bing & Bard) can be used in day-to-day science.
