Abstract

Today the utilisation of diode pumped amplifying optical fibres makes possible the simultaneous production of extremely intense optical pulses with high average power and high wall plug efficiency. They open the door to a vast domain of societal applications notably in the medical field with the laser-based radiotherapy to combat cancer, the production of abundant, affordable clean energy production, and the possibility to eliminate long lived nuclear wastes.
