AI has been adopted in many scientific fields for a long time, beginning with conventional ML and deep learning tools to generative AI. This has led to accelerating the production and visibility of science, including some spectacular achievements. It has facilitated the scaling up of experiments and establishing autonomous laboratories. From the discovery of patterns otherwise difficult to discern to the use of AI in the process of publishing research results, AI is expected to play an increasingly important role. The panel will discuss (1) what has been learned about the use of AI, including the caveats, in doing research in various scientific fields and (2) what do we know about the impact this will have on science.
