The circular economy requires that chemicals and materials be broken down and reassembled into useful building blocks, ideally those that were used to manufacture the same chemicals and materials. This requires bond-breaking and bond-making, which does not happen spontaneously. Thus, catalytic bond activation plays an essential role in these transformations. This panel will analyze trends and needs in this very active area of current research.
